Whole Grain Chews
Posted in Recipes by sophie
I’m not gonna lie…I don’t get excited about exercising, in fact, most of the time I’d much rather bake up something horribly unhealthy in my kitchen! But I have to admit that Jennifer’s Whole Grain Energy Bars caught my eye, even though she made them to snack on before/after her intense workouts. I don’t know that I’d necessarily try these after running a mile, unless I suddenly became more proactive about exercising:), but Jennifer’s bars do make a healthy portable snack for any time of the day…and I bet they’re a lot tastier than the typical energy bar, too!
Packed full of naturally sweet ingredients, like dried fruit peanut butter, these Whole Grain Chews are a more affordable and filling alternative to overpriced, sugar-laden cereal bars that don’t offer nearly as much protein. What else is great about ‘em? In her blog, Fresh Cracked Pepper, Jennifer mentions that they’ll last up to a month outside of the freezer; when frozen, you can keep them for as long as you want! But I have a feeling these bars will disappear long before developing the slightest bit of freezer burn.
Like Jennifer says, carry them in your purse, or tuck them away in the pocket of your kiddo’s backpack, and you’ll see that some things really are better when they’re homemade :).
